The Ledger
What we have settled, what is still open, and what we got wrong.
A frontier is mostly unknowns. This page is where we keep ours in public. Entries are dated and added, never quietly rewritten; when we are wrong, the correction is written here, beside the claim it corrects. Everything here is stated as principle; how the Instrument decides is the subject of a patent application.

A patent application, filed in India
Application no. 202611124329, for an apparatus and method that reads a person under a moving field of light and shapes the field in response. It is pending; nothing here is described as patented.

The limits became code
Every ceiling on rhythm, contrast, brightness and heat now refuses an unsafe command outright; none of them can be raised from a setting. An audit that did not share the author’s assumptions then attacked the code and found gaps its own tests had missed. Every one was closed.

One record for every session
Every practice session is written down in the same form, so that the map of how a person goes inward is drawn from real sessions rather than from memory.

The current safety envelope
Our limits follow the current clinical consensus on light-provoked seizures (Fisher and colleagues, Epilepsia, 2026), which replaced the guidance of 2005. That consensus does not address devices like ours; we read its silence as a gap we inherit, never as permission. Where we hold ourselves to a voluntary benchmark, and where we depart from one, we say so.

Eyes closed, and never brought up across the closing
Sessions are held with the eyes closed. The light is never raised across the moment the eyes close, and it settles on a steady warm field before anything moves.

Questions we have not answered. Each one changes how the Instrument is built, and each will move to Settled or Retracted when it is answered.

Does reading you help?
Whether a light that reads you and steps aside takes people deeper than a light that does not. We will compare the two, with the same guide, the same room and the same journey, and publish what we find, including a null.
Open
How low is low enough?
The studies behind every published limit on light contrast were done with patterns, not with an even field of light, and the risk they describe falls in proportion rather than stopping at a floor. Our ceiling reduces risk; it does not abolish it. That is why private screening and short, watched first sessions are not optional.
Open
A limit for colour
No agreed limit exists for change of colour in a field like ours. Until one is derived and tested on the bench, the light holds its colour: warm white with a steady deep-red wash, and only brightness and rhythm move. Saturated red is never flashed.
Open
Optical classification
We design to the lowest risk group as an intention. Only an independent test report can make it a classification, and until there is one, we do not claim it.

Telling depth from distress
No reliable signal yet tells a person who has gone very deep from a person who needs help. Until one is shown, fixed limits call the guide, and the guide’s eyes decide. The Instrument alerts; it never decides.

Who responds
Some people meet vivid colour and geometry, some meet stillness, and some respond very little. We do not yet know how to tell in advance, and we will not promise what we cannot predict.
Retracted
What we said, why it was wrong, and what replaced it. A claim corrected in public is worth more than a claim never tested.

Withdrawn claim: “A field of light that moves in colour, rhythm and depth.”
The light does not change colour to lead you
Our own pages said the field moves in colour. It does not. The light is warm white with a steady deep-red wash, and only its brightness and rhythm move. Colour flashing is its own risk. Behind closed eyes the lid lets through mostly red, and in the one study that compared colour regimes the experience did not differ. The colours people meet are made by the eye and the brain.

Withdrawn claim: “Opening your eyes ends the experience at once.”
Stopping is the stop control, your guide, and your palms
At depth, opening the eyes can meet a sudden brightness, so it is not the way to end a session. A stop control stays within reach, your guide can end the session at any moment, and your guide will show you how to shade closed eyes with your palms. Our own pages repeated the old line until 17 October 2026, when they were corrected.

Withdrawn claim: “Depth is quiet in the body; distress is loud.”
There is no heart-rate rule for depth
We had planned to read calm from a quiet body and distress from an agitated one. The evidence disagrees with itself, experienced practitioners can become more activated as they go deeper, and a very quiet body can still need help. We withdrew the rule rather than ship it.

Withdrawn claim: “Light ranks last among the contemplative methods.”
Light is not ranked against other paths
We once read a ranking of contemplative methods from a database of studies. Studies scored on different scales by different groups cannot be ranked against each other, so the ranking was void. What survives is narrower: there is no evidence that light outperforms other contemplative methods, which is why we never sell it on raw power.
26 Aug 2026
Withdrawn claim: “A featureless field is also the more powerful one.”
An even field is a safety choice, not a power one
We kept the field even and gave two reasons. Only one survived: evenness is a safety requirement, because patterned light is more provocative. The claim that evenness also deepens the experience did not hold, and we struck it.

Withdrawn claim: “Timing the light to the breath will take people deeper.”
The light is not timed to the breath
Locking a stimulus to the phase of the breath does not help: five independent groups found nothing. We read the breath, and it matters to the return; we do not time the light to it.
